About the Relay For Life
The Relay is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. It’s a volunteer effort spanning thousands of communities across 27 countries. Through the Relay, communities come together to remember lost loved ones, honor survivors and their caregivers, and raise money to help fight cancer globally. No one needs to face cancer alone, and participants in Relay For Life events help encourage and uplift those who are going through it.
“Many Connexus employees and family members have been directly or indirectly impacted by this disease,” Chief of Staff Mary Burgoyne said. “We have employees here who are cancer survivors, some going through treatment while continuing to work full-time, and we feel honored to be able to fully participate in this great event.”
Our Journey to Raising $55,000+
Connexus holds dozens of fundraising events for its employees throughout the year. These range from office potlucks to large-scale golf outings, with all proceeds going to the Relay. Here are a few of this year’s highlights:
We held several office potlucks in which different departments teamed up to make lunch for employees. Each potluck had a specific theme, including ballpark food, potato bar, southern barbecue, walking tacos, and more. Employees donated to participate, and we raised more than $5,000.
Rock the Lot
This is an event that includes our business partner Aqua Finance, Inc. Employees of both companies gathered in the parking lot and donated to participate in a fun afternoon of yard games, raffles, music, and food.
The Connexus Invitational is our marquee Relay For Life fundraising event. Every year we invite our business partners to enjoy a day of food, fun, and friendly competition at SentryWorld Golf Course in Stevens Point, Wis. The majority of the money raised at the Invitational is through sponsorships. With the help of our employees and partners, this event raised approximately $23,000 for the Relay.
We also held dozens of other miscellaneous fundraising events, including a bowling tournament, basket raffle, egg roll sale, rummage sale, and more. We’re incredibly proud of the efforts of our employees and delighted to be the Relay’s top Wausau team.
“Connexus is proud to be part of a team that is dedicated to supporting an event that affects millions of people,” Connexus Team Co-Captain Hal Osborn said. “Through the Relay, we show that we care for our employees, neighbors, and communities.”
