  • $83,000, 182 Team Members, 1 Relay to Remember

    2019-08-01T09:58:21-06:00By |Connexus News|

Connexus has been the Sole Presenting Sponsor of the Relay For Life in Wausau, Wis., for 13 consecutive years. In those 13 years, we’ve had some incredible memories, but the Relay in 2019 was one to remember.

    A Memorable Relay Night

Why was it so memorable? First off, we set a new Connexus fundraising record by donating $83,762.36 to benefit the American Cancer Society! That surpassed our 2018 total of $55,000 and our 2019 goal of $70,000.

But that wasn’t all. In the middle of the event, while the participants were walking and enjoying the live music, the weather took a turn for the worst. What started out as a hot, sunny day quickly turned into dark clouds, pouring rain, and a tornado warning.

After spending nearly an hour taking shelter in a nearby parking garage, we were forced to hold the luminaria ceremony indoors.

Though the event didn’t go to plan, it showed the true spirit of those who attend and participate in the Relay each year.

“The weather wasn’t going to stop us,” Connexus employee Craig Stancher said. “I think it showed a lot of perseverance for the organizers of the Relay to find a way to keep it going. Inside or outside, we were there to fight against cancer, and that’s what we did.”

How We Raised More Than $83,000

Since the end of the 2018 Relay, everyone at Connexus had been working hard to raise money for 2019. In fact, we held dozens of fundraising events this year. Here are some of the highlights:

    Employee Potlucks

Each department at Connexus hosts an employee potluck in an effort to raise money for the Relay. This year we enjoyed potluck themes such as ballpark, luau, Mexican, and more.

    Rock the Lot

This event includes our business partner Aqua Finance, Inc. Employees of both companies gathered in the parking lot and donated to participate in a fun afternoon of yard games, raffles, music, and food.

    Connexus Invitational

As our marquee fundraising event, the Invitational was responsible for more than half of our total fundraising efforts! We invited our business partners for a day of food, fun, and friendly competition at SentryWorld Golf Course in Stevens Point, Wis.

Each year we are astonished by the effort and generosity put forth by all involved. At the heart of this event is a common purpose to support our friends, family, and coworkers who have been affected by cancer.

    Kevin Viner Entertainment

As a part of the build-up to the Connexus Invitational, we stepped up our game this year and brought world-renowned mentalist Kevin Viner to Wausau to amaze our members, employees, and business partners. All proceeds went toward the Relay For Life.

What a great show. Thank you Connexus for bringing in the amazing Kevin Viner. A fun evening of magic and mentalism = mind blown.

These events, along with several other fundraising opportunities, helped us become one of the nation’s top Relay For Life fundraising teams.

We’re incredibly thankful for the generosity and support shown by our members, employees, and business partners. Next year, we’ll aim to raise even more.
