Advance Child Tax Credit Payments: What you need to know

On July 15, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will begin distributing Advance Child Tax Credit Payments to eligible families as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Six monthly payments will be made in total from July through December of 2021. Although Connexus does not have access to information about your eligibility for receiving a payment, your payment amount, or the date on which you might receive it, you can find more information on the IRS website. We have also provided more information about the Advance Child Tax Credit Payments in our FAQ section below.

Health & safety measures in branch lobbies

To ensure a safe and comfortable experience for branch visitors, members, and employees, the following enhanced health and safety features are in place.

Connexus employees, members, and other visitors are required to wear face masks, regardless of vaccination status, inside all of our branch lobbies.

Signage, arrows, floor dots, and physical barriers will be posted to promote social distancing.

Connexus employees will routinely use hand sanitizer, and we encourage members and all branch visitors to use sanitizer upon entering and exiting our branches.

We ask that members who exhibit any symptoms use Digital Banking or our drive-thrus in lieu of visiting our branch lobbies until they feel well.

What are Advance Child Tax Credit Payments and how might they affect me?2021-10-26T16:35:27-05:00

Advance Child Tax Credit Payments are part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 which was designed to provide relief to the American people and help the economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible families can receive six Advance Child Tax Credit monthly payments from July through December of 2021 via direct deposit or check. These six payments comprise 50% of the total Child Tax Credit families would receive, with the other 50% being claimed as a credit when filing 2021 taxes.

Alternatively, families can opt to unenroll from receiving Advance Child Tax Credit Payments altogether and instead claim the entire amount of their Child Tax Credit on their 2021 tax returns (filed by April of 2022).

Am I eligible to receive Advance Child Tax Credit Payments? Connexus does not have access to information about your individual eligibility for Advance Child Tax Credit Payments.2021-10-26T16:36:49-05:00

According to the IRS, eligible families will receive six monthly payments of up to $300 per month for each child who will be under age 6 on Dec. 31, and up to $250 per month for each child who will be 6 to 17 years old on Dec. 31. While there is no minimum income requirement, credit amounts will start to decrease for families that make $75,000 or more ($150,000 or more for married couples and $112,500 or more for heads of households). Each $1,000 of income above the phase-out level reduces a family’s credit amount by $50.

According to the IRS, eligible families will receive six monthly payments of up to $300 per month for each child who will be under age 6 on Dec. 31, and up to $250 per month for each child who will be 6 to 17 years old on Dec 31. The payment amount will be based on the modified adjusted gross income of each eligible family.

How do I enroll to receive Advance Child Tax Credit Payments?2021-10-26T16:37:37-05:00

Eligible recipients will be automatically enrolled based their most recent tax filing. The IRS urges any family who hasn’t yet filed their 2019 or 2020 tax returns to do so as soon as possible so they can receive any Advance Child Tax Credit Payments they’re eligible for. Tax returns must be processed by June 28, 2021, to be reflected in the first batch of Advance Child Tax Credit Payments scheduled for July 15. For families who file late, the IRS will adjust the monthly amounts to ensure that eligible families still receive half of their total Child Tax Credit benefit by the end 2021.

If eligible, will my Advance Child Tax Credit Payments be directly deposited into my Connexus account?2021-10-26T16:38:01-05:00

The IRS will use the data already in its system to send Advance Child Tax Credit Payments. Taxpayers with direct deposit information on file will receive their payments via direct deposit into the account they have on file. Therefore, if your Connexus account is the account you have on file with the IRS (into which you have previously received your tax refunds), you should expect to see your payments deposited directly into your Connexus account. Those without current direct deposit information on file with the IRS will receive their payments as checks in the mail.

What is the status of my Advance Child Tax Credit Payments and when can I expect it to arrive?2021-10-26T16:38:26-05:00

Connexus does not have access to the status of your payment until it is deposited into your account. However, the IRS has indicated that payments will be issued on the following dates: July 15, August 13, September 15, October 15, November 15 and December 15.
