Connexus Cares: 2020 Year in Review

As a member-owned credit union, Connexus understands the importance of giving back to the communities we serve. We value philanthropy and have made it a core tenet of our organization.

Since its inception in December 2018, Connexus Cares has set lofty giving goals. In 2019, we donated $1,000,159, and our goal was to increase that amount in 2020.

Of course, the pandemic altered how we donated our time and support, as the health and safety of our employees and community became a primary focus. Despite those unique challenges, we are proud to announce that we donated $1,542,762.96 in 2020.

The Connexus Cares 2020 Impact

Since launching in December 2018, Connexus Cares has made significant contributions to various local organizations. In fact, we have given upwards of $2,528,570 to nearly 100 food pantries, shelters, and other charities throughout the communities we serve and nationwide.

In 2020, we directed a good portion of our giving toward food pantries, as food insecurity became more widespread during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also donated over $62,000 for COVID-19 relief purposes.
We provided the following financial support to local, regional, and national organizations and charities:

Food Pantries: $315,000
Homeless Shelters: $242,000
National Charities and Sponsorships, including Bullseye Legacy Committee: $493,205
Veteran’s Programs: $117,300
COVID Relief Funds: $62,500

We donated an additional $298,406 to other organizations, including programs for at-risk youth, senior services, and employee support programs.

For the 14th consecutive year, Connexus was a Presenting Sponsor for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event. Through the Connexus Invitational, employee contributions, virtual fundraisers, and a donation match by Connexus Cares, we exceeded our 2020 goal of $100,000 by raising $108,554.26. In fact, Connexus was #1 in the state for the fourth consecutive year, #1 in our seven-state region, and #11 nationally — out of 39,493 teams!

Looking Ahead

Connexus Cares recognizes that 2021 will present its own set of unique challenges and opportunities for providing support. Looking ahead, we already have big plans to grow our financial support of vital organizations, volunteer our time when we’re able to do so safely, and find even more ways to give back. The needs have never been greater, and Connexus is determined to continue making a positive impact.
